45 Candidates Attend Race Official Training

Forty-five candidates took part in Race Official Training over the weekend across two locations.

At Swords Sailing and Boating Club (SSBC), a Local Race Officer training programme was hosted for 23 candidates from the club and from nearby Malahide Yacht Club. International Race Officer David Lovegrove led the session, sharing his extensive experience and insight.

This course follows a similar programme held in Killaloe Sailing Club earlier in January. Irish Sailing will be running the next Local Race Officer training programme in Glandore Harbour Yacht Club on Saturday, 28 March, which you can book here.

Meanwhile, in Dun Laoghaire, 22 of Ireland’s top Results Managers attended a National Results Manager training programme in the National Yacht Club.  Huw Pearce travelled from Wales to deliver an in‑depth session on the full use of Sailwave, including how to score events across a wide range of complex scenarios.

Additional thanks go to Liam Lynch and Gordon Davies, who both made valuable contributions. Liam delivered an engaging and informative presentation on handicap options, while Gordon explored a variety of lesser‑used race formats. Their input helped spark a lively discussion on how best to manage these situations within Sailwave.

Irish Sailing will continue to run a variety of training programmes over the coming weeks, with more dates to be added to the website soon.  Click here for further details.
