SAIL TRAINING IRELAND ANNUAL AWARDS

The historic Mansion House in Dublin was filled with warmth, pride, and a powerful sense of community as Sail Training Ireland gathered to celebrate its annual awards ceremony. The afternoon was a true reflection of everything Sail Training Ireland stands for including opportunity, inclusion, friendship, and lives changed through shared adventure at sea.

Lord Mayor Ray McAdam was in attendance and spoke passionately about how pathways like those created by Sail Training Ireland can genuinely change lives, offering young people and adults alike the chance to grow, learn, and discover their potential in ways they may never have imagined.

Daragh Sheridan, CEO of Sail Training Ireland, spoke about the organisation’s far-reaching impact. He emphasised inclusion, fun, and adventure, describing voyages that build confidence, create friendships for life, and open doors to new possibilities. He thanked the board for their continued support and commitment, acknowledging the collective effort behind every successful voyage and every changed life.

The Lord Mayor then presented a range of well-deserved awards, including the Special Contribution Award, Mentor Award, Volunteer of the Year Award, the Perpetual Asgard II Award, Trainee of the Year Award, and Leadership for Life Certificates. Each award recognised dedication, leadership, and the incredible spirit that runs through the Sail Training Ireland community.

Some of the most moving moments of the afternoon came from participants who shared their personal experiences at sea. They spoke about everything from cleaning the galleys and learning to work as a team, to being away from their parents for the first time. Others described witnessing unforgettable sunsets, discovering new passions, and the enthusiasm that carried them through every challenge.

One particularly powerful story came from a visually impaired participant who sailed with the support of a buddy. He spoke of how unbelievable the voyage was and how he never thought he would one day steer a ship. His story captured the very essence of what Sail Training Ireland makes possible, breaking down barriers and building confidence in ways that last a lifetime.

Throughout the afternoon, the atmosphere in the room was full of camaraderie, friendship, encouragement, and support. It was clear that Sail Training Ireland is more than an organisation, it is a community that empowers people to believe in themselves and in each other.

It was a fantastic way to celebrate the year’s achievements and to recognise the amazing work Sail Training Ireland continues to do, changing lives, one voyage at a time.

Irish Sailing are proud to support Sail Training Ireland and the transformative opportunities it provides, championing inclusion, adventure, and personal development for sailors across the country.
