WORLD SAILING INVITES GLOBAL FEEBACK FOR OLYMPIC REVIEW

World Sailing has opened a formal consultation with the international sailing community as part of its scheduled review of Olympic sailing events ahead of the period following the LA28 Olympic Games.

The review is conducted in line with World Sailing Regulation 11, which requires that a minimum of four Olympic events are evaluated every four years. At the 2025 World Sailing Annual Conference, the General Assembly voted to place four events under review: Men’s Kite, Women’s Kite, Mixed Dinghy and Mixed Multihull.

As part of the process, the World Sailing General Assembly will vote later this year on the future of each event. Possible outcomes include retaining the event and equipment, retaining the event with evolved equipment, retaining the event with entirely new equipment, or replacing the event with a new format. Where equipment evolution or replacement is supported, a further review will take place in 2027 to reach a final decision. The full text of Regulation 11 can be read here.

Proposals submitted during the consultation phase will be reviewed by a joint working group drawn from World Sailing’s events and equipment committees. Submissions are open to Member National Authorities, World Sailing Class Associations, Continental Associations, Associate Members, relevant committees and commissions, and World Sailing race officials.

Proposals must be submitted using the designated template and emailed to proposals@sailing.org by 31 March 2026. Late submissions will not be considered.

All decisions relating to Olympic sailing events remain subject to final approval by the International Olympic Committee.
