In August 2025, Irish Sailing updated the Garda Vetting application form in line with revised requirements from the National Vetting Bureau. As part of this update, there has been a change to how an applicant’s identity is confirmed at club and training centre level.
The role of *Designated Person has now been made redundant for Garda Vetting purposes, with identity verification instead being carried out by a Validator.

When validating an application, completing the Validator details and working carefully through the accompanying checklist is an important part of the process. These steps help maintain the integrity of Garda Vetting and ensure that those working with young people in our sailing, powerboating and windsurfing community are appropriately vetted.
