COASTAL NAVIGATION COURSES FOR SMALL BOATS

Winter is the perfect time to invest in skills that will make the coming sailing season safer and more enjoyable. Irish Sailing’s Coastal Navigation for Small Boats course is a shorebased programme designed to help sailors build and refresh navigation skills and seamanship from the comfort of your own home.

The course is available through Checklick and is delivered by Advanced Small Boat Sailing Scheme (SBSS) or National Powerboat Training Scheme (NPTS) instructors. It focuses on the practical skills every small boat sailor needs, including chartwork, buoyage, weather awareness, tides, passage planning, and basic seamanship. These core topics support better decision-making on the water and help sailors feel more prepared when conditions change.

Irish Sailing provides a dedicated course pack, complete with training charts, exercises, and question sheets, which allows clubs and training centres to run the course easily throughout the winter months, whether as a short programme or a series of evening sessions.
