The Irish ILCA 4 squad made up of Conor Lynch, Eolann Miles, Zita Tempany, and Súin Ní Choistealbha, led by coach Liam Glynn, wrapped up a great performance at the inaugural EurILCA Team Racing European Championship in Athens, securing an 8th-place finish against a highly competitive international field.
Race Day 3, the final full day of round-robin racing, delivered a demanding mix of conditions. Racing began at 08:00 under a workable 5-knot breeze that allowed the fleet to make early progress. As midday approached, the wind softened, leading to a return to shore. The breeze briefly recovered around 14:30, giving the teams another opportunity to build on their results. But by late afternoon the wind faded again, ultimately ending the day’s schedule. In total, 15 races were completed, bringing the event tally to 48.
Despite the stop-and-start nature of the day, the Irish team continued to show consistency and cohesion in their fleet maneuvers, holding their own against traditionally strong sailing nations. Their efforts reflected the depth of Ireland’s youth sailing program and the growing footprint of team racing within the country.
The Irish team left Greece with valuable experience, strong performances across the board, and momentum heading into future international team racing events.
