SCHOOLS: SHANAHAN CUP

The Irish National Sailing and Powerboat School ran its second day of racing for the Shanahan Cup – a Team Racing series run in collaboration with Gonzaga College.  The competion has a total of Twenty teams competing hailing from St Gerard’s, Blackrock & Willow, Gonzaga, Loreto Dalkey & Foxrock, Holy Child, St Michael’s, St David’s and two teams from St Andrew’s College.

St Andrew’s College won all races this time. Three of St Andrew’s college teams have benefited from some coaching from alumni sailor and coach Sam Ledoux and Max Cantwell.

St Andrew’s College also setup a Mini Regatta to give those sailors who cannot get a place in the Shanahan Cup a chance to race and progress their Team Racing skills. This is run by St Andrew’s College with the support of the Royal Irish Yacht Club and was sailed using Irish Sailing Fireflies. The mini regatta was open to all sailors from other Leinster/Dublin based schools making it inclusive for all abilities. St Andrew’s College will provide a trophy for this miniseries.

There are two more Shanahan Cup Days which are planned for early 2026, dates are to be confirmed.
