Strong Irish Representation at 49er Junior European Championships
The 49er Junior European Championships will take place in Sicily, Italy from 6-9 November. Four teams will be representing Ireland at the event in both the 49er and 49erFX categories.
Ben O'Shaughnessy (Royal Cork Yacht Club) and Ethan Spain (National Yacht Club) have just come from their senior debut at the 49er World Championships where they scored an impressive a race win and a second place. They also secured a third place overall at the British National Championships, they will be competing in the 49er class.
Erin McIlwaine (Newcastle Yacht Club) and Ellen Barbour (County Antrim Yacht Club) also competed in the 49er worlds, on their final day of qualification racing in the women's 49erFX event they scored a third and a second in Silver Fleet. Earlier this year they also took Bronze at the Under 23 World Championship. They will be competing in the Women’s 49erFX class.
Lucia Cullen (Royal St. George) and Alana Twomey (Royal Cork Yacht Club) competed at the British National Championships this year after a summer hiatus due to injury. They have also just finished a 16-race event in Campione Italy, where they achieved a bronze podium spot in the Women’s 49erFX category. 
Also competing will be Laruen O’Callaghan (National Yacht Club) and Charlotte Eadie (Ballyholme Yacht Club)
The Racing begins on Thursday the 6th of November with the competition running until the 9th.
