Irish Schools Sailing Association Hosts Fleet Championship
The Irish Schools Sailing Association (ISSA) is set to host a fleet championship event on September 14th at the Royal Cork Yacht Club. This event, part of the ILCA Summer Sprint Series, marks a significant shift in focus for school-level sailing.
Traditionally centred on team racing, the rebranding of Irish School Sailing has opened avenues for fleet racing. “This is an exciting development for schools and young sailors,” said an ISSA representative.
To ensure a strong turnout, the Munster Schools Fleet Racing Championships have been integrated into the established ILCA Summer Sprint Series. This series has a history of hosting competitive sailing events, culminating in Crosshaven after stops in Glandore, Kinsale, Cove, Bantry, and Iniscarra.
Sailors can participate as individuals or as part of their school’s team. The top four scores from each school will contribute to the Munster championship final score. Sailors will also compete for individual prizes within the sprint event.
