It is that time of year again , where Irish Sailing are seeking nominations from the relevant classes who may wish to nominate some of their members to compete in the Irish Sailing 2025 Champions Cup.
As previously communicated, the decision was made earlier this year (on foot of formal feedback from many classes) , that the 78th Champions Cup will be competed in both Dinghies and Keelboats in TWO separate events. This will serve the dual purpose of increasing the number of slots available for the many talented Helms across the different classes and also create a more level playing field between Dinghy and Keelboat sailors.
Important Dates for the 2025 Nomination Process:
Electronic forms Seeking Nominations from Each Relevant Dinghy & Keelboat Class Issued on the 2nd September. Should a class have not received this email, please contact Irish Sailing Racing Manager directly on stephen.oshaughnessy@sailing.ie
DINGHY NOMINATION FORMS:
To be completed by each relevant class representative seeking a nomination for their respective class, no later than midday on 8th of September 2025
KEELBOAT NOMINATION FORMS
To be completed by each relevant class representative seeking a nomination for their class, no later than midday on the 15th of September 2025 (This event is taking place a week later than the Dinghy Champions Cup)
The schedule for the 2025 Champions Cup is as follows.
Dinghy Champions Cup
- Date: 4th / 5th October
- Location: Royal Cork Yacht Club (Cork Harbour)
- Adult Dinghy to be Sailed: National 18
- Number of Invitees: 12
Keelboat Champions Cup
- Date: 11th /12th October
- Location: Royal Irish Yacht Club (Dun Laoghaire)
- Keelboat to be Sailed: J80
- Number of Invitees:12
Please also note that the return day for completed nominations from ALL classes ( as highlighted in the table above) is a hard deadline – reason for this is that both events are scheduled to take place circa five weeks from now and the nomination forms deliberately did not issue before today ( 2nd September), to give as many classes as possible the opportunity to submit 2025 nominations ( i.e. a number of national championships for relevant classes are being completed into early September).
