JUNIOR SQUADS APPLICATIONS

Irish Sailing is excited to announce the opening of applications for the Topper and ILCA4 winter squads. This comes off the back of a successful summer program of training and international events with highlights of a 5th and 3rd place finish at the Topper Worlds and British Nationals and 2 top 10 finishes at an ILCA4 Europa Cup. These results reflect the environment created by all the squad sailors – one that combines challenge with support, fosters curiosity and learning, and encourages incremental progress.

Building this holistic environment is central to the squad philosophy, with each sailor leaving the program with new skills, achievements, memories and ambitions. We are now inviting all keen racers who would like to develop in this environment to apply to the winter programs.

The topper program will consist of 6 weekend training camps whilst the ILCA4 program will consist of 4 extended training camps over school holidays and 1 Europa Cup. Selection will be heavily based on selection training weekends with indicator events as indicated below. Please refer to the squad description and policy documents for further information.

Selectors will be looking carefully for sailors with a growth mindset that embrace high-performance values. This includes preparation of sailing equipment, pre-start routines on the water, competitive expression, resilience to setbacks and respect of rules and other competitors. Sailors may also be assessed for suitable size, weight and fitness for the class. We would encourage sailors to continue their training in the lead up to the selection events, so you have the best opportunity to showcase your skills.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Head Junior Coach, Liam Glynn (liam.glynn@sailing.ie) if you have any questions regarding the squad selections or progressing through the junior pathway.
