ILCA NATIONALS 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Champagne sailing was the order of the day in Ballyholme over the weekend as the ILCA fleet celebrated their 50th anniversary in style.  The celebrations were backed up by 130 boats battling it out across three fleets for the national championship.

The ILCA 4 fleet were lead home in impressive style by Max O’Hare (RSGYC) with 6 race wins across the eight race event.  Abigail Murphy (RSGYC) and Siun Ni Choistealbha (MYC) battled it out for second place with Abigale taking the honours by just three points.

In the ILCA 6 fleet Sienna Wright (HYC) showed that consistency pays by taking the title with a series of podium race finishes.  This consistency was enough to take the title by two points from local sailor Daniel Palmer (BYC).  The battle for third could not have been closer.  Zoe Whitford (EABC) had to win the last race to upstage Lucy Ives (RSGYC) taking the final podium slot on countback.

In the ILCA 7 fleet Irish Sailing ILCA coach Milan Vujasinovic (JK Sibenik) won the event from Fiachra McDonnell (RIYC) with Japanese visitor Narimitsu Toyozumi (Fukuoka-JAPAN) taking third overall.  As Milan and Narimitsu were international competitors, the Irish national title went to Fiachra McDonnell, with Tom Coulter (EABC) taking second and Liam Glynn (BYC) completing the Irish podium.
