PLAN YOUR CRUISE TODAY

Discover the Beauty of Cruising Ireland’s Coastline This August

There’s no better way to experience the beauty, rich heritage, and peaceful waters of Ireland than from the comfort of your own boat. With over 3,000 kilometers of coastline, dotted with hidden coves, sheltered bays and bustling harbours, cruising Ireland offers a unique perspective that few get to see.

As August approaches, conditions often provide the perfect window for cruising adventures, with longer days, warmer temperatures, and a vibrant coastal community ready to welcome you ashore.

Irelands coastline has some breathtaking views and incredible scenic variety. From the wild atlantic way to the island-studded waters of West Cork, and the historic harbours of Dublin Bay, each region offers something entirely different to offer. But thats not all cruising Ireland has to offer...

  • Rich Culture & History: Explore ancient castles, traditional fishing villages, and Gaelic-speaking communities all within reach of your mooring.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Spot dolphins, basking sharks, seals, and a variety of seabirds along the way, the Irish coast is rich in marine life.

  • Uncrowded Waters: Compared to other popular cruising destinations, Ireland’s waters are often quieter, making for a more relaxed, personal experience.

But be prepared and practise safety;

Cruising Ireland is rewarding, but as with all adventures at sea, preparation and caution are key:

  • Plan Your Passage: Always check the weather forecast, tide times, and harbour facilities in advance. Websites like Sailing.ie, Met Éireann, and Navionics charts are invaluable tools.

  • Know Your Crew’s Limits: Choose distances and anchorages that suit your crew's experience. Build in contingency plans in case the weather turns.

  • Stay in Touch: Keep a VHF radio and updated navigation equipment onboard. Let someone ashore know your plan and provide them with means for tracking your adventure

  • Respect Nature: Anchor carefully, avoid disturbing wildlife, and leave no trace when visiting coastal sites or islands.

  • Here is the RNLI Checklist to refer to before heading out to sea

August is an excellent month to set sail, with milder conditions, plenty of daylight and local festivals popping up along the coast. Whether you're planning a weekend hop along the East Coast or a full circumnavigation of the Wild Atlantic Way, there’s no better time to explore, relax, and reconnect with the sea. However, if your planning a bigger adventure or would just like more adaquete training before setting sail, you can head to one of Ireland's many training centres that provide day courses on skippering, crew safety and much more...

But you don’t need to go far to have an adventure. A simple cruise from your local harbour to the next bay over could uncover a spot you've never seen before, or offer a peaceful escape from the everyday.
