ILCA WESTERNS

Killaloe Sailing Club Host to ILCA Western Championships

Killaloe Sailing Club was host to the ILCA Western Championships ( previously referred to as Connaught Championships) over the weekend and it turned out to be an ideal location for the fifty plus sailors competing.

Located on the Western shores of Lough Derg,  Killaloe Sailing Club has witnessed many transformations since its foundation 50+ years ago, to arrive at a point now where it is vibrant and active club, supported by a new and modern clubhouse that is fit for purpose for many years to come.

All three ILCA classes competed ( ILCA 4,6 & 7) over two days , across a full series of six races - three races completed on Saturday and a similar number on Sunday.

The ILCA 4 fleet saw Max O’Hare from the RstGYC dominate from race one to take the title, followed by Conor Lynch (RCYC) and Blake Vaughan (RCYC) in second and third respectively. The 38 strong ILCA 6 fleet saw Conor Cronin of Malahide YC take the overall honours , with Ballyholme YC sailor Daniel Palmer taking second, followed by Eolann Miles (Glandore Harbour YC) closing out the podium. The ILCA 7 fleet was also dominated by one sailor – Conor Byrne(RstGYC) taking 5 bullets to win outright. Matteo Valentini (RstGYC) followed in Second with Daragh Kelleher of Skerries SC finishing in third place.

Special thanks to Sean Cunningham and the wider team of Killaloe SC members who worked hard to ensure a successful event and to National Race Officer , Michael Conway for officiating over the two day event. We look forward to Killaloe SC hosting many more events into the future , in what is an idyllic location in the heart of Ireland.
