NEW IRISH SAILING LOGBOOKS!

New Syllabus & Logbooks on the way!

With the school term wrapped and sailors around the country either having already been on the water or ready to hit the water, Clubs and Training Centres are now ramping up for another busy summer.

With that in mind, the Training Team at Irish Sailing are delighted to share the latest updates to help support your programmes and deliver quality outcomes.

SBSS Syllabus & Logbook – Distribution Underway

Irish Sailing is excited to launch the updated SBSS Sailor Syllabus & Logbook, a booklet designed to help sailors better engage with what they are learning, clearly view steps to progress, log all on the water  activities and understand the skills required at each level.

We are currently distributing copies to Clubs and Centres to ensure that, insofar as possible, each SBSS sailor has ONE book!  These booklets should be handed out to all participants – it’s their personal sailing book, something to take pride in and celebrate as they move through the schemes – it is a book for each sailors Active Life on Open Water.

There are online versions of this booklet as well as each separate syllabi at www.sailing.ie.  To this end,  refreshed Instructor Handbooks and Checklick reflects the content of all the levels.

Please ensure Checklick records all participants, even those not achieving full certification. This allows for accurate tracking and consistency between physical logbooks and digital records. The logbooks will tell sailors what they need to learn, Checklick will track their progress.  Each Participant with a book should have a corresponding Checklick account.

The booklet is complimentary, aimed to enhance quality outcomes for all participants in the country, however we do ask that Checklick records are up to date.

Coming Soon – A Guide to Programme

We’re developing a practical guide for Centre Principles (CP), Training Officers (TO) and Junior Organisers (JO) to help create more effective and engaging training environments using the SBSS syllabus as the foundation.

A summary version will be published online in early July and we’ll be inviting feedback, ideas, tips and best practice from Clubs and Centres to build this into a lasting “how-to” resource for the future.

Instructor Handbook – Summer Refresh

To support instructors delivering SBSS this season, the Instructor Handbook is being updated to include clearer guidance, learning notes, and new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to help instructors better understand expectations and measure outcomes.

This updated version will be circulated to all Instructors and Senior Instructors in digital format in early July.

Support Visits Continue

The Irish Sailing Training Team is now well underway with our Training Support Visits for Summer 2025.

These visits are a key opportunity to meet your team, support training delivery and ensure recognition standards are being upheld.

These visits are to support your delivery of training both off the water and on the water alongside ensuring the recognition standards of safety, governance and good practices are followed and maintained.

You can find the Support Visit checklist HERE, to help you be prepared.
