BSC TO COMPETE AT TEAM RACING WORLDS

Baltimore Sailing Team to Compete at Team Racing World Championship at New York Yacht Club This Weekend!

The 2025 Team Racing World Championship will take place on Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, from May 28 to June 1, hosted by the prestigious New York Yacht Club. This marks the long-awaited return of the Team Racing Worlds after a 10-year hiatus.

The event will be raced in the club’s fleet of 23-foot Sonar keelboats, using a 2v2 format. While this setup differs from the more familiar 3-on-3 format typically used by Irish sailors and college teams—raced in lightweight, two-person dinghies—it has gained popularity for its simplicity. In 2v2 racing, the team with the last boat to cross the finish line loses the race, making for fast, tactical, and high-stakes competition.

Twelve teams from ten countries are set to compete, including Argentina, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, the United States, and Ireland. Each team includes six to eight sailors, with a minimum of two women and two men per team.

Representing Ireland is the Baltimore Sailing Club Team Racing Squad, who secured their place by winning the 2024 Irish Team Racing Nationals. The team is split across two boats:

  • Boat 1: Fionn Lyden (helm), Johnny Durcan, Trudy O’Hare, and Amy Harrington

  • Boat 2: Mark Hassett (helm), Liam Glynn, Micheal O’Suilleabhain, and Emma Geary

Best of luck to the Baltimore team as they take on this Championship!
