Role Overview
The Youth/Junior Team Assistant will provide essential support to the Irish Youth/Junior Sailing Team, ensuring the smooth operation of training sessions, competitions, and team activities. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sailing, youth development, and sports administration. The assistant will work closely with coaches, athletes, and support staff to create a positive and productive environment for the team.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Support:
- Support the coordination of travel, accommodation, and transport for team events.
- Assist in the preparation and organization of sessions, including equipment setup, safety checks, and logistics.
Athlete Support:
- Offer encouragement and mentorship to young athletes, fostering a positive team culture
Administrative Duties:
- Help with the coordination of team schedules and plans.
- Assist in communication with athletes, parents, and stakeholders.
Event Support:
- Attend national and international competitions as part of the support team.
- Provide general support to athletes and coaches during events.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all activities adhere to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Ensure Irish Sailing safeguarding guidelines and practices are adhered to at all times.
- Assist in risk assessments and emergency procedures as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of boat maintenance and equipment care.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends.
- 19 year of age or older
- Garda vetted
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience in coaching or assisting in a sailing environment.
- Powerboat handling qualification (e.g., ISA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent).
- First aid certification.
- Knowledge of sailing, particularly youth sailing classes (e.g., Optimist, Topper, ILCA, 29er, etc.).

- Enthusiastic and motivated to support young athletes.
- Reliable, punctual, and professional.
- Adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Passionate about sailing and youth development.
