Royal Cork ‘Raising The Bar’ in Promoting Irish Sailing Race Official Course
The Royal Cork Yacht Club was host to the Irish Sailing Local Race Officer course earlier this week with an amazing attendance of 85 enthusiastic members over two evenings.
The course content is designed to give an introductory high level view of how to mange sail racing safely and effectively, with a focus on the importance of an entire Committee boat team and the different skills required to support any race officer. In line with changing times, the Royal Cork has made a policy decision that any member who wishes to act as a club race officer at any level, must have at a minimum, successfully completed the Irish Sailing Local Race Officer module in advance of officiating.
This will be of huge benefit to their members involved in any aspect of competitive racing and will ensure best practice over the coming years while ensuring a continual focus on managing risk.
Special thanks to club member and National Race Officer, Anthony O’ Leary for delivering the course content. Thank you also to Vice Admiral Denis Byrne and the wider royal cork team for supporting this positive and progressive initiative. We look forward to seeing similar numbers of volunteers across the Country completing this very informative course as a stepping stone into the world of race management.
