A Message for all Boat Owners!
Are you a boat owner? If so check your policy with your broker or insurer, make sure your current insurance policy covers all events including events outside your home club.
It has come to the attention of Irish Sailing that in the finer print of some insurance policies you may not be covered to compete in regattas outside of your home clubs. So we urge you to check this ahead of the 2025 season of Racing.
- Some insurance companies (including Lloyds) are only granting cover to yacht owners for events run by their own Club. Even though most event organisers say that entrants to Regattas or Championships are members of that Club for the duration of the competition, cover is only provided whilst involved in racing under the auspices of the Club to which the membership fee is paid.
- This means for instance, if a yacht is traveling to an event such as the Volvo DL Regatta, D2D, Calves Week, Sovereigns Cup, ISORAS, Cowes Week etc, the owners may believe that they have €3,000,000 of cover only to find that in the event of an incident the insurance cover may not be in place.
