FINGAL FESTIVAL OF SPORT
Irish Sailing will be at the Fingal Sports Festival this Saturday, 24 August at Malahide Castle from 12pm. We will be there to represent all Sailing and Training Centres in the Fingal area.
The Fingal Sports Festival promises to be an action-packed day in Malahide with sports activities, workshops, and live demos from various National Governing Bodies (NGBs). Whether you're a sports enthusiast or just looking for some fun, this event has something for everyone of all ages!
Irish Sailing will have information from clubs and centres in the area as well as some games you can test your sailing (and knot-tying) skills in and win prizes. Run by Fingal’s Sports Office, this free-to-attend event is held at the beautiful Malahide Castle & Gardens.
The event will kick off at midday and encourages everyone to get active and help celebrate the glory of our Olympians. A number of athletes from Fingal were participating in Paris for the Summer games – in particular, three of our sailors, the 49er pair of Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove are from Howth YC and Skerries respectively and ILCA sailor Eve McMahon is also from Howth YC.
Attendees can also participate in demonstrations and activities with Swim Ireland, TU Dublin Sport, Special Olympics Ireland, Cycling Ireland, Rowing Ireland, Diving Ireland, Hockey Ireland, Basketball Ireland, Pentathlon Ireland, Pitch and Putt, FAI, Tennis Ireland, Leinster Rugby, Dublin GAA, and Volleyball Ireland.
With such a wide array of sports represented, the festival promises a comprehensive sporting experience for enthusiasts of all ages.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Brian Mc Donagh says,
“I am delighted to invite everyone to the triumphant celebration of the achievements of Team Ireland at the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris at Fingal’s Sports Festival! We are very proud of the glorious seven athletes from Fingal that competed for Team Ireland. The many sports and activities going ahead on the day of the festival may provide inspiration to step into the shoes of Ireland’s Olympians”.
The Chief Executive, AnnMarie Farrelly, says:
“Fingal County is indeed a great place to live, work – and to have quality time with friends and family. I encourage everyone to join us and to enjoy sports leisure at the historical Malahide castle venue. Our Olympics tribute event will be family friendly, free-to-attend and unforgettable! So let’s get the ball rolling – join them on the August 24 and be a part of the festivities!"
