IRISH SAILING YOUTH NATIONALS – Topper Youth Titles
The National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire hosted the Topper Southerns over the weekend and like the ILCA 4 Connachts held in Lough Ree during early May, the Topper Southerns ‘doubled up’ as the event in which to decide the Topper Youth National Winners for 2024.
The Topper sailors could not take to the water at the Irish Sailing Youth Nationals in early April due to 3 days of stormy weather but showed their resilience and commitment by competing in idyllic weather conditions over two days in Dun Laoghaire.
The Topper Southerns, with the kind permission and support of both Topper Ireland and the National Yacht Club, acted as an alternative event in which to award the 2024 Youth National medals to the U16 Topper sailors placed 1st , 2nd, and 3rd overall.
The final results saw James Gorman (National YC) take the bronze medal, Gemma Brady (Lough Derg YC) took home silver, while Leo O’Doherty (Sligo YC) took gold. Congratulations to the medal winners and to the broader fleet of competitors for making this event a memorable one for the Topper class.
