GO WINGING!

First Irish Sailing Wingfoil Instructor Course

Wingfoiling or “Winging” is currently one of the fastest growing wind sports in the world with broad appeal across the Windsurfing, Kiting, Sailing and Surfing communities. The intuitive feel, lower physical intensity and relative simplicity of equipment also makes it very accessible to newcomers across the age and gender spectrum.

After a period of development with assistance from Jamie Knox and Jeff Cochrane, who were both at the forefront of the development of the sport, Irish Sailing has now launched a “Go Winging” module as an extension of the “Go Windsurfing” scheme which will be available through some of our Recognised Training Centres.

The weekend of May 20th / 21st saw the first Go Winging instructor course take place hosted by Jamie Knox Watersports, Maharees Co. Kerry. Ironically this was the first weekend in a long time which saw almost no wind but the 7 participants were treated to glorious sunshine and enough sea breeze to work through the basic techniques of getting beginners successfully introduced to the sport.

We are aiming to schedule a second Go Winging instructor course in the Dublin area in early June to work along side the hugely successful pilot programme being run by the Royal St. George Y.C. in partnership with INSS and Pure Magic

Initially the Irish Sailing Go Winging modules will be available through Jamie Knox Watersports and The Oysterhaven Centre and we hope to see more Training Centres adopting the programme as we move into the summer.
