100 Years of Team Ireland


☘ 100 years of Olympians  ☘

On Wednesday night 20 of Irish Sailing's best represented sailing at the Team Ireland centenary celebration in Trinity College Dublin.

Those in attendance ranged from David Wilkins, who represented Ireland at the Moscow 1980 Summer Olympics bringing home a Silver Medal, to Rio 2016 Silver Medalist Annalise Murphy. 

  • Ireland has won 38 Olympic medals, two of which are in Sailing.
  • 911 Irish athletes have competed for Ireland over the last 100 years, 62 of them have been sailors!

Just a few of the other sailors who have represented Ireland at the Olympics are Robert Dickson, Sean Waddilove and Finn Lynch who are on the current Irish Sailing Team. Bill O'Hara OBE who is on our Olympic Steering group. Rory Fitzpatrick who is the current Irish Sailing Head Coach and Scott Flannigan who is on the Irish Sailing staff.
