Youth World Sailing Championships close out the 2023 Season!
The Youth World Sailing Championships are set to kick off this Friday 8th until the 16th of December. Irish sailing are very excited to be represented in four of the classes, with a total of four boats and six sailors travelling over.
It will be the closing event to a very successful 2023 for our youth and development programs in Irish sailing, racing will commence on Monday 11th after three days of boat inspections, opening ceremonies and practice races.
Competing for Ireland we have:
Women’s Dinghy, ILCA 6 Class
Sienna Wright (Howth Yacht Club)
Sienna had a strong summer on the international circuit taking home two Silver medals in U17 category, first at the ILCA 6 Youth Worlds in Dziwnow, Poland and second being the ILCA 6 Europeans in Gydnia, Poland.
Men’s Dinghy, ILCA 7 Class:
Fiachra McDonnell (Royal St. George YC)
Fiachra has been working hard on his progression in the ICLA 6 fleet before progressing into the ILCA 7 class, being introduced to some of Finn Lynch's training camps along the way, all while balancing his Leaving Cert.
He had a tough week at the U21 ILCA World Championships in Morocco, but still produced a strong week of racing to take lessons from.
