Irish Sailing’s Academy return to Cape Clear
The Infamous week in which the sailors switch of from the outside world, leaving their phones behind and take on a whole week of training, skills development and survival tasks.
The sailors are taken away from the world of distraction: phones, friends, family and school and given this unique opportunity to focus solely on their sailing journeys.
This year five ILCA 6 sailors travelled to Cape Clear in West Cork. They embarked upon sail training as usual. Some days with more spectacular views that others. Their new coach Chris Penney also incorporated certain fitness challenges into the week. Such as the wall sit which you can see below.
They also received teaching in seamanship skills from Mark McCarthy who is an Instructor at the Marine Training centre based on the Island.
A few nights over the week the sailors had to catch their own dinner too!
Then finally to end the week a rope climb was organised for Saturday night which was then followed by a night regatta. Which was won by Tom Coulter the ILCA 6 2023 National Champion.
