Investing in your club?

Has your club ever thought about investing in Double / Multi–Handed Dinghies?

This could be the perfect time while the Sports Capital Grant applications are still open!

The prevalence of single–handed dinghies in the club training environment, particularly in the junior training environment, has been acknowledged as a challenge for the progression of our sailors. While single handers provide ease of access and introduce good fundamental helming skills there is a need to be exposed to the additional challenges of a crewed dinghy in order to develop into a fully rounded sailor.

In addition to their role in the junior training area, the larger double / multi- handed dinghies are also an excellent way to introduce adult beginners to the world of dinghy sailing and encourage new adult members.

Access to Double / Multi–Hander Dinghies for Club training activities has long been a challenge with individuals slow to purchase due to uncertainties around crewing commitments as kids grow older and some of the more performance orientated pathway boats not being particularly suited to the learning environment.

The recently announced round of Sports Capital Grants may offer a route for your Club to purchase suitable boats dedicated to the development of club training for juniors and adults.

Grants are available to sports clubs, voluntary and community groups, national governing bodies of sport and local authorities. Third level colleges, VECs and schools may also apply for funding jointly with sports clubs.
