Winter Regional Cluster Meetings

The Regional Development Officers ran a series of Regional Cluster Meetings in November, gathering management and committees from clubs and centres together to talk about how they can help each other develop sailing in their region and bring collaborative schemes to the fore.

ISA information shared in summary …

  • The Try Sailing programme was a national success with many clubs and centres seeing a direct increase in membership and bookings.
  • A regional coaching programme idea for beginner racing was presented and each region embrased the concept and adapted ideas to suit their infrastructure.

  • Safeguarding training is available through the ISA and Local Sports Partnerships. Each region is requested to schedule a spring date for the ISA to run a Safeguarding 1 course for volunteers and instructors
  • Garda Vetting is now law for any persons carrying out relevant work or activities with children or vulnerable persons more than four times in any month or overnight. Details and links for forms here https://www.sailing.ie/garda-vetting/
  • Pathway Plan talk with James O’Callaghan was scheduled for RCYC 30 Nov and a Leinster talk will be scheduled soon. Academy Seminars are scheduled to run in the new year for all youth sailors.
  • Blueway routes, locations and events is in development in collaboration with Sports Ireland, Canoe Ireland and Dive Ireland.
  • Senior Instructor Courses now booked through ISA and are a flat rate of €300. Instructors are encouraged to upskill.

  •  ISA Passport is being implemented nationally in 2017. Further details to be announced in the New Year. Clubs and centres to contact ciaran.murphy@sailing.ie for details.
  • Sports Capital Grant will be announced in 2017 for sports clubs nationally.
  • Collaboration is encouraged amongsregions with purchasing, events, equipment, coaching and more.
  • Inclusion Games is a new event coming to Ireland for  2017. Weekend celebration regatta for people with disabilities and their families. Canoeing, rowing, sailing.  There will be a pre event coaching programme and post event participation legacy. Full details to follow in new year.
