Irish Sailing organised the first Watersports Inclusion Games this summer in Dun Laoghaire. The aim of the Games was two-fold: to encourage people of all abilities from the physical, sensory, intellectual and learning difficulty spectrums to come and try watersports; and to show watersports providers that with a bit of training and planning, they can facilitate people of all abilities on the water.
The Games were a resounding success, with 125 volunteers providing activities for over 220 participants. Participants and their families had a chance to try sailing, rowing, canoeing/kayaking and fast boat rides.
We’ve put together a short film which we hope encourages people to get involved – as an organiser, a participant, or a volunteer. Please share with everyone, and if you’d like to find out more, please contact Ciaran Murphy at firstname.lastname@example.org
And if you’re already running an Inclusion programme, don’t forget to enter for the Cara National Inclusion Awards 2017 which recognises organisations and people who enhance participation opportunities for people with disabilities in sport. Closing date for entries is 20 October. http://caracentre.ie/nia-2017
