100 Race Officials Registered

Officers, Judges and Measurers

All Race Officials need training and there is a constant stream of new volunteers coming on board each year to help keep sailors, young and old, out racing. To keep up with demand and help to create develop skills, the ISA ran a series of 16 race official courses in 2016, including Rules talks, Local Race Officer, World Sail Measurer, Regional & National Race Officer and Regional & National Judge. A total of 273 attended courses throughout the country in Kinsale Yacht Club, Lough Ree Yacht Club, Arklow Sailing Club, Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, Foynes Yacht Club, Carlingford Sailing Club, Wicklow Sailing Club, Wexford Harbour Boat & Tennis Club, Royal Irish Yacht Club Royal St. George Yacht Club, Royal Cork Yacht Club and UCD Sailing Club

In 2016 the ISA introduced Race Official qualifications in to the ISA Passport. This is an online (cloud based) platform which replaces the use of Paper Logbooks, Certificates and Records, but gives you the ability to see your progress as an ISA Race Official. One of the main benefits of using this platform is that a whole heap of otherwise time consuming administrative and management tasks can be done automatically and online, and Race Officials can use the platform for progressing in their discipline and logging events that they have officiated at. Once you have registered for your ISA Passport, it stays with you throughout you Race Official career. You will “own” your personal Checklick Passport and data (as required by data protection law). The ISA has populated the ISA Sailing Passport platform with all the steps required to complete each level of Race Official and the detailed skills which you need to acquire to advance through that level. Sarah-Louise Rossiter the ISA Racing Development Officer is tasked with managing the ISA interface with ISA Passport and its Race Official users in Ireland.

100 Race Officials are now registered and using the ISA Passport for Race Officials. We aim to have all of the active race officials registered with the system by Easter 2017.  Contact Sarah-Louise at sl.rossiter@sailing.ie if you would like to find out more.
