Annalise Murphy started sailing at the age of 9 in Dun Laoghaire with her parents Cathy McAleavey who represented Ireland at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 and her father Con Murphy who was Cathy’s coach in Seoul. Annalise sailed all year round as a junior in her home club the National Yacht Club before graduating to the ISA Academy six years ago. In 2009 she won the Under 18 World Championships in Japan, in 2011 she was 6th in the senior World Championships in Australia and won a bronze medal at the Sail for Gold World Cup regatta in Weymouth in May 2012. She finished fourth at London 2012 having won the first four races of the event.

After a two year break from her science degree in UCD to concentrate on her Olympic campaign Annalise will return to college this autumn and will start training for Rio 2016. Her hobbies include surfing, skiing, cooking and baking
