ISA NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS, BURLINGTON HOTEL, DUBLIN 2
The ISA Annual Awards Dinner took place on Sat 7th March during the ISA National Conference weekend (Burlington Hotel, Dublin). Delegates from ISA Clubs, Class Associations and Training Centres from around the country attended 30 topics of interest to the boating community.
Windsurfing 2008 National Champions
Gareth Nihill, IWA President presented their three national championship trophies for Speed, Slalom and Wave at this years Awards Dinner.
Oisin Van Geldren - 2008 National Wave Champion
Pearse Geaney - 2008 National Slalom Champion
John Kenny - 2008 National Speed Champion
ISA Youth Sailor of the Year
Philip Doran of Courtown Sailing Club is the ISA Youth Sailor of the Year 2008.
3 Youth Sailors were nominated for this new award. All three of these sailors achieved outstanding results at an international event in the past year.
Oliver Loughead (15 years old), Ballyholme Yacht Club
• 10th place Laser Radial Youth European championship
• 2nd U17 at same event
• 10th place Europa Cup Germany
• 1st ISA Youth National Championship
Annalise Murphy ( 18 years old ), National Yacht Club
• 5th Laser Radial Youth World Championship
• 4th Laser Radial Youth European Championship
Philip Doran, (15 years old ), Courtown Sailing Club
• 1st U16 Laser 4.7 World Championship
• 1st Youth ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship
ISA Volunteer of the Year
Pierce Purcell, Galway Bay Sailing Club was announced at the 2008 ISA Volunteer of the Year at the ISA National Conference & Awards Dinner, 7th & 8th March 2009.
Previous recipients of this award include Charles Sargent (2001), Kieran Milner (2002), Don O'Dowd (2003), Gus Henry (2004), Alan Algeo (2005), Carmel Winkelmann (2006) and Donal O'Sullivan (2007).
Also acknowledged by the ISA for making a "significant voluntary contribution" to their club or class were:
- Claire & Sean Thompson: Glandore Harbour Yacht Club
- Valerie Kinnear: Irish Fireball Class
- Michael Clarke: J24 Class Association
- Peter Gallagher: Irish Windsurfing Association
- Mícheál O’Sullivan: Tralee Bay Sailing Club
Each volunteer was presented with a keepsake and a presentation for their club to publically display.
ISA Hall of Fame
Helen Mary & Robert Wilkes were inducted into the ISA Hall of Fame in recognition of their outstanding services to junior sailing, particularly the International Optimist Dinghy Class.
Previous inductees include include Ken Ryan (2008), Alf Delaney (2005) Clayton Love Jnr. (2007)
Last November (2008), Robert & Helen Mary Wilkes were presented with the ISAF President Development Award at the ISAF Council Meeting in Madrid, Spain.
Jimmy Mooney Award
The Jimmy Mooney Marine Gallantry Medal Award was established in 2003 by a gift of endowment made by Clayton Love Jnr., a Past President of the ISA and Past Deputy Chairman of the RNLI.
The Jimmy Mooney Award was presented to Pat Murphy as a result of his participation in a medical emergency in the south Pacific Ocean.
ISA President’s Award
ISA President Peter Crowley introduced a new award this year, which was presented to the O'Leary Family (Sally, Anthony, Peter, Nicholas and Robert) in recognition of their activities and involvement to the sport in an outstanding manner.
The ISA would like to congratulate all of Awards receipients.
