A SEMINAR HOSTED BY THE ISA & IMF, 28TH NOV 07
The Irish Sea Marine Sector conference was held on 28th November 2007, at Howth Yacht Club, Co Dublin and organised jointly between the Irish Marine Federation and the Irish Sailing Association. The day was hugely successful, with 100 delegates, from all parts of the country and from marine based industry, county councils, state bodies and government departments.
Representation included:
Dept of Transport
Irish Water Safety
Failte Ireland
Waterways Ireland
County Enterprise Board
South East Regional Assembly for Ireland/Wales European Programmes
As well as council representatives from Cavan, Fingal, Kerry, Donegal, Roscommon Mayo, Newry and Mourne, Limervady, Louth, Dublin, Sligo, Wicklow Companies ranged from sailing schools and diving to civil engineers, from boat sales to marina managers and harbour masters.
The presentation of the Irish Sea Marine Sectors study was extremely well received with speakers from the independent consultancy companies Tourism Development international and Drima Marketing, providing an insight into methodology and content.
Steve Conlon concluded the presentation by drawing the threads of the study together and explained how the study would be going forward into the future.
Copies of the study were available, on the day, in paper form and CD and over 60 of each type of media were taken away by interested parties.
The remainder of the day also proved to be very interesting with speakers from Conwy in Wales, Limervady in Northern Ireland and from the ISA.
All provided interesting and useful information on subjects ranging from:
· working with difficult groups within the personal watercraft sport, to include them
· beach management
· training for all aspects of water sports through the ISA
· and the ISAs own vision for building a future strategy.
The overriding success of the day as far as the Irish Sea Marine Sector is concerned, is that the Study was very well received and should provide a good source of facts for a wide variety of organisations in the future.
A copy of the Study The Potential for Growing Marine Leisure is available in hard copy or on CD from the office address above, and a PDF version is available on www.irish-sea.org
