The ISA's Powered Craft Schemes will allow you to learn and develop your skills from absolute beginner to expert, in the type of powered craft that you want to drive.
Powerboat Courses
- ISA Introduction to Powerboating »
- The aim of this course is to provide a brief taste of Powerboating for beginners.
- ISA National Powerboat Certificate »
- By the end of this two day course the successful participant will be capable of helming without supervision in good conditions and familiar waters.
- ISA Safety Boat Certificate »
- By the end of this course, the successful candidate will have a wide range of boat handling techniques and experience in the provision of safety cover for sailing events.
- ISA Advanced Powerboat Certificate »
- By the end of this course, the successful participant will have a sound introduction to using fast open boats at sea.
ISA Diveboat Coxswain Certificate
By the end of this course, the successful
candidate will have the skills they need
to take charge of a diveboat in familiar
waters.
ISA Recreational Powerboat Certificate
By the end of this course, the successful
candidate will have the skills they need
to plan and use their boats for general
recreation in familiar waters.
ISA Coastal Navigation for Small Boats
By the end of this course you will be able
to safely navigate a boat by day and by night
in coastal waters with which you are familiar.
Age Restrictions
The ISA recommends that no one under the age of sixteen years should be left in charge of any powerboat without appropriate adult supervision.
Under Irish law it is illegal for anyone under the age of sixteen to operate a powerboat that is capable of 17 knots or more. ISA powerboat schools are therefore unable to offer training courses in planing boats to anyone under sixteen years old. However if you are under sixteen you may do the Introduction to Powerboating or the National Powerboat Certificate in a displacement boat, where this is available.
