2008 Qualifying Criteria for the International Carding Scheme

The carding system is in place to enable Irish sailors to benchmark themselves against appropriate international standards for their age and class of boat. The carding criteria are mutually agreed between the Irish Sports Council (ISC) and the ISA.

Carded athletes are reviewed every quarter by the ISC against targets set at the beginning of the season. Upon achieving targets sailors get rewarded either directly through financial payments or indirectly through coaching support. Being a carded athlete also entitles you to significant sports science support including physiotherapy visits, nutritional visits, and medical visits.
