The Role of the ISA
The ISA are developing training modules to help train 4 types of people working with disabled sailing:
1. Assisting People with Disabilities: For volunteers, shore mums, ground staff- how to prepare on shore for sailing. Can be done in 30 minutes with small group or up to an hour if large group as used at National and Instructor Conference
2. Instructing People with Disabilities: For Instructors while on their course, a 20 minute power point presentation(PPP), the who, why, when, where, and how to instruct different groups.
3. Managing People with Disabilities: For Senior Instructors while on their Course, 20 minutes PPP, 20 min on shore practical, lifts, transfers, adapting boats and 80min on water practical session simulating scenarios and role play.
4. Coaching People with Disabilities: This is a 1 Day Certificate of Attendance, approved by Coaching Ireland and designed by the ISA to facilitate Sailing. It encompasses all aspects of disabled sailing, including specialised boats, coaching styles, Paralympic and Special Olympic Pathways and a practical session with disabled sailors when possible.
