Accessible Sailing-Sailforce

The purpose of the Irish Disabled Sailing Association (Sailforce) is to promote sailing for people with disabilities. Here at the ISA we aim to support this organisation to achieve its objectives in developing training and promoting sailing in Ireland.

  • To provide the necessary support for people with disabilities to sail.
  • Encourage sailing as an activity, primarily for pleasure, but also to facilitate those who desire to develop their competitive potential.
  • Lower the age at which people with disabilities can sail.
  • Develop and foster team spirit between able bodied and those with disabilities, through leisure and competitive sailing.

2. Instructing People with Disabilities: For Instructors while on their course, a 20 minute power point presentation(PPP), the who, why, when, where, and how to instruct different groups.

3. Managing People with Disabilities: For Senior Instructors while on their Course, 20 minutes PPP, 20 min on shore practical, lifts, transfers, adapting boats and 80min on water practical session simulating scenarios and role play.

4. Coaching People with Disabilities: This is a 1 Day Certificate of Attendance, approved by Coaching Ireland and designed by the ISA to facilitate Sailing. It encompasses all aspects of disabled sailing, including specialised boats, coaching styles, Paralympic and Special Olympic Pathways and a practical session with disabled sailors when possible.
