The Foynes Yacht Club Annual Carrigaholt Race was held last Saturday in trickey weather conditions.
A total of four yacht's took part with a 9am start. Conditions were a moderate westerly wind in a force 5 breeze.
It was a beat all the way down the estuary, to the Clare coastal fishing port. Team Foynes on Dexterity got off to a superb start down to Tarbert, but Battle made ground after using the tide at the Kerry shore. In the end Dexterity took line honours, but on corrected Battle became victorious.
Alphara and Kerrydream got caught in the turning tide shortly after the monastic Island of Scattery, and Kerrydream decided to turn back for home, while Alphara continued to the finish.
In the Long Dock public house, Carrigaholt the prizegiving took place and the Jackson cup was presented to the winning boat, Battle, where some sea food and guinness were consumed by the thirsty crews.
A cruise to Paradise Island is organised for this Saturday, August 20. It is scheduled to leave Cooleen Point at 12 noon.
