It's not too late to book a place on the Transition Year Keelboat Race Week at Heir Island Sailing School in Cork!

The first residential week (15-19 September) is fully booked but there are still some places left on the second week (22-26 September).

They're shaping up to be really exciting camps with about 50/50 boys to girls and a spread from all around the country from areas such as Clare, Waterford, Kilkenny, Dunmore, Howth and Dun Laoghaire to name but a few.

Open to all junior sailors around the country, but aimed at Transition Year students in particular, ICRA and the Royal St George Yacht Club are pleased to announce that the 15-19 and 22-26 of September will be Keelboat Race Week at Heir Island Sailing School in Cork.

From one of the most stunning sailing areas in Ireland, these two week-long courses of intense keelboat racing and training, will be specifically for Transition Year sailors keen to broaden their sailing and racing experience.

A team of expert coaches, as well as six matched open keelboats, will provide the perfect environment for learning and developing the key skills associated with racing keelboats including main and headsail trim, bow work, helming, tactics and spinnaker handling.

At the end of the course sailors will have gained familiarity with the various roles on keelboats as well as gaining an appreciation for the tactics and strategy used throughout big boat races. Crucially they will also learn how to adapt the dinghy approach to bigger, more powerful boats.
