The Irish Cruiser Racing Association held its Come Sailing Day in Howth Yacht Club as part of Sail Spree on the 3rd of May welcoming 60 visitors out on the water.

The event also incorporated the selection trial for David Ryan's Volvo 70 Round Ireland entry. Candidates were on board the ISA's SailFleet J80 keelboats and were evaluated by Robert Dix, Paul Reilly and Ian McCormack who between them have extensive experience on big boats in numerous Fastnet, Sydney Hobart and Round Ireland Races.

Seven J80s were skippered by Robert, Paul and Ian as well as Joss, Pater Bailey, Ian Byrne and Andy George. There were three 1.5 hour session for each boat in breezy conditions. Emmet Dalton got the whole show rolling with a great welcome brief and quick tour of the marina. On shore presentations were made at different levels/ skills by Graeme Grant, Noel Davidson and Kenny Rumball. Feargal Kinsella ran the shore operations with Kevin Darmody looking after getting the sailors on/off and Joe Carton was safety officer on the water with his ribs and crew. The Centenary room provided an ideal debrief / social / lunch area where all went and perfect opportunity to showcase HYC and sign up new members.
