The Dublin Bay Squib Class teamed up with the Royal St George Yacht Club last weekend for their Sail Spree event.
The class used the national initiative organised by the ISA as an opportunity to attract new sailors to their Squib fleet and to promote the Squib class in Dun Laoghaire. They invited potential new sailors to meet on the forecourt of the RSGYC on the afternoon of Sunday 4th of May to try out a Squib.
Aja, Femme Fatale, Kookaburra, Periquin and Sidewinder were ready for the visitors with a club rib in support. The guests were taken out for a short race around marks in the bay and then back to shore for a chat over a drink.
The class were delighted to welcome eight potential new Squib sailors, drawn from family, friends and neighbours of current sailors, as well two who had heard of the event through the ISA's publicity campaign. Participants ranged in experience from a complete beginner to a Melges 24 champion! All had a good time, with the benefit of a nice breeze and warm and dry weather. All-in-all it was a worthwhile exercise that the class could repeat next year.
The class would like to thank everyone who participated, loaned their boats and drove the rib.
