Research into the Size and Nature of the Adventure Activities Sector in the Republic of Ireland
In 2013 Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, asked the Irish Sports Council to examine the issues associated with safety and standards in the adventure activities sector.
In light of the Minister’s request, an Adventure Activities Working Group was established by the Irish Sports Council to examine the issues associated with safety and standards of adventure activity providers. The Minister will make further proposals on the matter when the group has completed its work.
The Irish Sports Council has recently commissioned an independent adventure quality and safety consultants Adventure Activity Associates to carry out research into the size and nature of the adventure activities sector in the Republic of Ireland. Adventure Activity Associates are made up of experienced outdoor activity practitioners with extensive experience of organisational, quality and safety matters within the adventure activity sector.
The purpose of the research is to provide reliable information on:
- The size and scale of the adventure activities sector in the Republic of Ireland.
- The numbers and types of accidents and incidents within the sector in the Republic of Ireland.
Information collected by Adventure Activity Associates will be used to provide the Adventure Activities Working Group with an overview of the sector as a whole. While address and contact details will be made available to the Irish Sports Council for contact and consultation purposes, all other information collected by Adventure Activity Associates will be treated as confidential, reported anonymously and on a collective sector basis only.
The findings of the research will be used to inform and guide the development of the framework to address safety and standards. The Adventure Activities Working Group appreciates the co-operation of providers in assisting Adventure Activity Associates carry out this valuable work.
The Adventure Activities Working Group recognises the need for constructive consultation with the wider adventure activities sector and intends to carry out a comprehensive and effective consultation process within adventure activity providers later in the Spring, once the research is completed.
The survey shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to complete. If you have to leave it before completion you can save and return later to your response.
