This year Kilrush Sailing Club's October Series will have a new twist - each boat is requested to have at least one female on board for each race. This activity is being promoted by the ISA's Women on Water Ireland (WOWI) initiative with the proceeds going to Action Breast Cancer.
The RWYCI and the ISA have teamed up with the Irish Cancer Society to promote WOWI as part of this year's Get the Girls fundraising campaign. Each boat participating in the October Series of races should have one lady sailor on board for each race. In addition all race participants will be required to wear pink during the final races on October 26th.
Preliminary start times for the races have also been announced. Briefing will be at 11am on Cappa Pier for the races on Sunday 6th October with race starts planned for 12 noon and 12.10 (White Sails).
The Get the Girls campaign is a fun way for women to get together and raise money for breast cancer research and free, nationwide cancer services. Over 2,000 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Ireland each year and this year WOWI events will aim to get women on the water in aid of Action Breast Cancer while raising much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
