Four students based in Southampton won the European Match Racing Youth Championship in Lake Constance in Germany last weekend. 

The team was skippered by Philip Bendon from Glandore, Co Cork and crewed by his cousin James as well as Christopher Tiernan and Bruno Van Dyke.

Team Ireland won the final against Mark Lees' Team GBR1 who won silver with the bronze going to Team ITA.

Team Ireland is the Virtual-Rigger Match Race Team formally known as the Southern 
Match Race Team but have changed their
 name since signing with sponsors Virtual Rigger
 Chandlery company.

The Team are the current British University
 Match Racing national champions.

The Team was founded in September 2012 
and has since gone on to improve a huge amount 
rising to number 121 in the world as of June 2013 with 
the aim of being inside the top 30 in the world by this 
time next year.
