Last week the ISA teamed up with the Irish Cancer Society to promote our Women on the Water Ireland (WOWI) initiative as part of this year's Get the Girls fundraising campaign. A group of ladies from the National Yacht Club got together for a WOWI training session in the ISA SailFleet Dinghies under the instruction of ISA Regional Development Officer Ciaran Murphy will proceeds going to Action Breast Cancer.
The Get the Girls campaign is a fun way for women to get together and raise money for breast cancer research and free, nationwide cancer services. Over 2,000 women are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in Ireland each year and this year WOWI events will aim to get women on the water in aid of Action Breast Cancer while raising much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society.
Speaking about the campaign Gail McAllister, ISA Regional Development and WOWI Officer commented “The ISA is delighted to support the Irish Cancer Society’s Get the Girls campaign through our wonderful Women on the Water Initiative. WOWI is a great way to get women together doing something fun and active – which not only encourages women to participate in sailing and raise money for a great cause - but also gets us physically active which is a great way to be healthy and reduce your risk of breast cancer."
There are still plenty of WOWI events happening over the next few months so Get the Girls and get involved. See www.sailing.ie/WOWI
