Following on the success of a revised format in 2012, the Fastnet International Schools’ Regatta will again be hosted by the Fastnet Marine & Outdoor Education Centre and Schull Community College in 2013.
The event will take place in Schull Harbour from July 22nd – 25th and is already attracting entries from the USA, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The change in format in 2012 provided fleet racing of the highest calibre in the Gold Fleet, where 24 identical dinghies provided the closest possible racing with the final result only being decided on the final day. Racing will again take place in the newly acquired T.R.3.6 dinghies which were designed and built specifically for the World Teamracing Championships in 2011 and a full fleet is expected.
The importance of participation in Bronze and Silver Fleets has not been forgotten by the organisers who see participation at this level as an important starting point in developing expertise, experience and having fun. Handicap racing will take place in both of these fleets and also class racing within the fleets where sufficient entries are received.
The Gold Fleet boats are provided by the organisers which will permit sailors compete at the West Cork venue without the burden of transporting boats and allow the full enjoyment and competition be the full focus of the week.
