The Renaissance Re Junior Gold Cup concluded in Hamilton Harbour, Bermuda over the weekend where Irish sailor Douglas Elmes from the ISA Optimist Squad took the overall top prize in this highly respected Optimist event. Following on from his recent success on Irish waters, including winning gold at the Irish Nationals, Douglas beat off stiff competition from 37 other international sailors to win what was the 10th anniversary of the regatta.  Finishing the 11 races on a total of 50 points, which included a total of eight top 5 results, Douglas beat the second place Argentinian Tomas di Luciano by 4 points.

“I know today I had to cover Tomas from Argentina and so that is all I did. It worked out well. It was the right thing for me to do,” remarked Douglas. “I am really amazed that I won the Junior Gold Cup. It is fantastic.”
