The Commissioners of Irish Lights are proposing a new sector light to mark Glandore outer approaches.

The User Consultation Meeting will be held on Wednesday 26th September 2012 at 6pm in the Glandore Inn.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) has asked the Commissioners of Irish Lights (CIL) to consider potential improvements to the marking of the outer approaches to Glandore. Having considered a number of potential solutions the most effective option would appear to be a sector light on high land to the Northwest of Long Point. See chartlet below.

CIL will construct an appropriate Aid to Navigation (AtoN) on behalf of DAFM. It is hoped to complete construction of the AtoN before the end of November 2012. Following construction responsibility for future maintenance would be transferred to the Local Lighthouse Authority.
