Mullingar Sailing Club hosted the Mirror Bronze Regatta on Saturday the 25th of August in winds gusting up to 6 knots. As a one day event it was slow getting out on the water but the OD managed to get 5 races in before 4pm.

There were 12 entries in the regatta and spectators watched as Samuel Wray (aged 13) and crew Helen Smith (aged 14) from Sligo Yacht Club won 4 out of the 5 races, gaining 2nd in their 4th race even with a dry capsize.

Sailing the gaff rig “No Knotsense” (sail no. 68540), the pair gave an incredible performance often sailing an entire leg ahead of the 2nd boat.

The Bronze Fleets award were presented to Samuel and Helen after the more important pizza delivery from the local pizzeria, which was a welcome site for all after a wet and windy days sailing.

The Bronze Regatta is a great opportunity for novice and bronze sailors to experience the thrill and excitement of dinghy racing and many of these bronze sailors are taking their sailing a little more seriously than usual as they aspire to participating in the Mirror Worlds in Lough Derg next July.
