With the ISA’s acquisition of 3 Nautivela 420’s we are in the excellent position this winter to put into place a winter training programme based in Southern Europe. This will include training camps for 3 boats and much needed international competition that will help get a solid base of work done during the winter. It will run alongside the domestic training progamme and every effort to avoid clashes in dates will be made.
This year the Copa de Espania will be the first opportunity to reach the international qualification standard of top 40% in order to attend the 2013 ISAF Youth Worlds.
There will be 3 trips away this Winter:
1. Training Camp: Vigo, Galicia: 18th - 21st October T.B.C.
2. Training & Spanish Championship: Malaga: 29th October – 3rd November.
(1st chance to obtain the international criteria for ISAF YW 2013)
3. Training and Palma trophy: Majorca: 4th -9th December.Cost
The cost of camp 1 is €200 per sailor. Camp 2 and 3 are €300 per sailor. Flights and food costs are not included in this. It does not include the cost of entry fees. The ISA will cover the costs of all logistics and vehicles to get the boats to the venues, accommodation and coaching costs.Who is this for?
This is an open invitation to all members of the Irish 420 class, the programme is designed around those who wish to improve their 420 sailing skills with a view to international competition over the coming years. The aim of the programme is to give our sailors the coaching and exposure to events they need to perform in international regattas such as the junior Europeans and the ISAF Youth World Championships. There are only places for 3 teams on the programme and in the case of over application the provisional class ranking list which takes into account the results from the Leinsters, Connachts, Nationals and Munsters will be used to decide the places.
We would encourage those who are not in an exam year to take part in the 3 scheduled events as this will give the best chance to make a big step forward with their 420 sailing this winter.
Those interested in being part of the group need apply in writing to Ross Killian by the 17th September. Email is sufficient at firstname.lastname@example.org
Following the Munsters booking forms will be sent to those taking the places.
