Annalise Murphy swaps the high seas for the open roads with the Mark Pollock Cycle
ISA Olympic Sailor Annalise Murphy is taking some time out from her Rio 2016 training to help The Mark Pollock Cycle get off the ground. She will be joined by fellow sports stars Jonny Sexton, Rob Kearney, Jamie Heaslip and Kevin McLaughlin as they cycle through some of the best routes in Leinster. Together they are urging the public to take to the saddle to fight for mobility.
Life chose Mark Pollock’s challenge when he became suddenly blind at just 22 years of age. Mark then chose his own challenges when he grew up to become one of the world’s greatest adventure athletes and the first blind man to reach the South Pole.
Life came back with another challenge just a few years ago when Mark fell from a two-story window and is now left paralysed from the waist down. Mark Pollock wants you to choose his cycle challenge with options of 100km and 160km. The all new cycle sport if event takes place on The 15th September 2012.
Annalise Murphy remarked “I first met Mark when he spoke to my school in transition year and he inspired me with all of the incredible challenges he has overcome. I can't wait for the challenge of the Mark Pollock Cycle this September, it will definitely be a big change from sailing but a great day out”.
Mark Pollock commented “When my training is tough, athletes like Johnny and Annalise inspire me to keep going. They are competing and winning. I am deeply honoured that they are supporting me in my effort to recover”.
The cycle starts and finishes at the Mount Wolseley Hotel in Tullow Co. Carlow with first class cycling support by followed by massage, optional ice baths and a barbecue with live music. After all that you get a night’s stay in the luxurious hotel.
The route covers the heart of Leinster and takes in the provinces most beautiful sites just south of the Wicklow Mountains. There will be two fully sign posted routes, stocked rest stops, bicycle mechanics, sport massage therapists and vehicle support.
Day cycle options are included, and you can register now at or email and call 0818 919 918.
