47 Irish sailors competed at the 2012 UK Optimist Nationals.

The event was marred by high tides and unseasonally heavy winds, which meant that for all fleets, sailing was cancelled for two days of the five day event.

Poor weather didn’t dim the spirits of the sailors, who competed in the Junior and Senior of the Main Fleet, and also in the Regatta Fleet.

Congratulations to all sailors, particularly prize winners Douglas Elmes (3rd Senior), Harry Whitaker (7th Senior), Richard McGinley (6th Junior Gold), James McCann (7th Junior Gold), Emma Parker (1st Junior Silver) and Ronan Walsh (3rd Junior Silver).
